Measures for Implementation of Organizing Teaching Contests for Young Teachers at Tongji University
In order to highlight the importance of undergraduate teaching and teaching quality, the Measures for Implementation of Organizing Teaching Contests for Young Teachers at Tongji University are formulated to encourage young teachers to devote more time and energy to undergraduate teaching, thus constantly innovating and developing teaching methods.
1. Time Arrangements
The contest is held every academic year. According to the overall teaching arrangements, it can be alternated between the first and the second semester of each academic year.
2. Participants
Participants are young teachers under 35 who are arranged with lectures during the semester of the contest. Teachers aged between 36 and 45 who are interested may also register for the contest.
3. Forms
The contest is divided into two categories: team contest and individual contest. In principle, participants of team contest are from the same college. For the colleges with a small number of participants, they can also participate as cross-college teams. Generally, team members should not be fewer than 3. The team contest results are based on the average score of all the participants in each college.
4. Categories
Team contest: 1 first prize and 2 second prizes.
Individual contest: 1 first prize, 3 second prizes and 6 third prizes.
5. Expert Group
Each college (or department) appoints a teacher with a high teaching level (or a recently retired teacher), along with members of the expert supervision team from the Academic Affairs Office to form an expert group to evaluate the teaching contest.
6. Procedures
The contest includes two stages: the preliminary stage and the final stage.
6.1 The preliminary stage: it is carried out from Week 5 to Week 10. The participating teachers are not required to prepare new lessons for the contest. The expert group randomly attend lectures according to the participants' lecture schedule. They will attend lectures twice for each participant. In Week 11, the expert group holds a meeting for a comprehensive evaluation to select 20 relatively high-ranking candidates for the final.
6.2 The final stage: it is divided into 2 steps as follows:
(1) It is carried out from Week 12 to Week 15. The finalists are organized to have open lectures by their college (or department), with students and teachers attending lectures. The Academic Affairs Office invites the expert group to attend lectures and the Publicity Department to videotape the lectures. At the same time, a student symposium will be held for students' feedbacks. They will be the main basis for the final assessment.
(2) After Week 15, experts and students are organized to watch the open lecture video of the finalists. On the basis of questionnaires to the students, the experts will synthesize all the aspects of the assessments and finally select the team and individual winners.
7. Rewards
The team and individual winners will be awarded corresponding rewards and be commended through various media, including the university newspaper and campus networks.
