Administrative Measures to Recognize Credits for Innovation and Extension Activities of Tongji Undergraduate Students
In order to promote the cultivation of highly-competent innovative talents in our university, especially the implementation of the program plan of outstanding talents, the following Administration Measures for Innovation and Extension Activities of Tongji Undergraduate Students are formulated.
I. Rules of credit recognition
1. The credit recognition is divided into recognition by university and by college/school (department);
2. The recognition by university includes recognitions of competition awards inside and outside the university, academic theses, invention patents, achievements of innovative experimental projects and research projects;
3. The scope of recognition by college/school (department) should be specified by the college/school (department) and submitted to Academic Affairs Office for record keeping;
4. Students who first obtain the university recognition of “Credits for Innovation and Extension Activities” are given the priority to the confirmation of grades and credits for the practice course Innovation and Extension Projects (unless the grades have been achieved in colleges/schools (departments)). Afterwards grades and credits cannot be recognized for the practice course Innovation and Extension Projects in colleges/schools (departments).
II. Criteria for Recognizing Credits for Innovation and Extension Activities at Tongji University
1. Credits are recognized according to the highest award won in the same competition (subject to the academic competitions recognized by University). All the students in the group competition can get the same grades and credits.
1) Three credits are recognized for the first prize of university level, and two credits for the second prize.
2) Five credits are recognized for the first prize of provincial and ministerial level, four credits for the second prize, and three credits for the third prize.
3) Six credits are recognized for the first prize of national level, five credits for the second prize, and four credits for the third prize.
4) Credit recognition for international academic competitions (subject to the recognition of the University) shall be implemented according to competitions of national level.
5) Two credits are recognized for the third prize or above of other academic competitions held by non-academic organizations and industry associations (subject to the recognition of the University).
2. Academic papers
1) Two credits are recognized for publishing an article as the first or second author in an authoritative newspaper (subject to the recognition of the University).
2) Four credits are recognized for publishing a paper as the first author in the core journals (subject to University regulations), three credits as the second author, and two credits as the third author.
3) Five credits are recognized for publishing a paper as the first author by SCI and EI, four credits as the second author, and three credits as the third author.
3. Five credits are recognized for achieving an invention patent at the national level as the first author, four credits as the second author, and three credits as the third author.
4. Innovative Projects for undergraduate students and their awards
1) Innovative projects for undergraduate students
(1) Four credits are recognized for each group member after completing the national entrepreneurship and innovative project for undergraduate students.
(2) Three credits are recognized for each group member after completing the municipal (Shanghai) innovative projects for undergraduate student.
(3) Two credits are recognized for each group member after completing the university-level School Innovation and Training Program (SITP).
p.s. The accomplishment of innovation projects at the national and municipal (Shanghai) level can replace the graduation design (thesis) if reaching the standards of the graduation design (thesis)and be granted with corresponding credits after being recognized by the college/school (department).
2) Awards of innovative projects
(1) Extra six credits are recognized for each group if awarded as a typical case of undergraduate entrepreneur and innovation projects of Ministry of Education, and maximum three credits for each individual.
(2) Extra six credits are recognized for each group if awarded as an outstanding case of Shanghai municipal projects, and maximum three credits for each individual.
(3) Extra five credits are recognized for each group if awarded the second prize and above in SITP, and maximum two credits for each individual
III. Procedure of credit recognition
1. Procedure of credit recognition at the university level: the student shall file an application and attach relevant materials, and the vice dean of the college/school (department) shall organizes the recognition, and then submit it to Academic Affairs Office for review and confirmation. Application for credits of innovation projects shall be approved by the project instructors, and then recognized by the vice dean of the college/school (department), and lastly submit it to Academic Affairs Office for review and confirmation.
2. Procedures of recognition at the level of colleges/schools (departments): The student shall file an application and attach relevant materials, and relevant teachers of the college/school (department) shall organizes the recognition and then submit it to the vice dean of college/school (department)for review and confirmation.
IV. Record of Grades
I. Record of Grades at the university level
1) Credits for Innovation and Extension Activities recognized by the University shall be recorded as “excellent” grades in the Student Grade Table for Projects of Innovation and Extension Activities.
2) Credits for Innovation and Extension Activities have the priority to be recognized as credits for Projects for Innovation and Extension, and the remaining credits can be recognized as credits for “Quality and Capacity Development Course”, and the upper limit of credits shall be 4 credits. (According to the Notice of the Office of the Ministry of Education on Printing and Distributing the Guidance Scheme for Public Art Course in Regular Institutes of higher education of the People's Republic of China (Department of Education, Sports and Arts [2006] No. 3), the non-artistic students shall select at least one of the art selective courses and also pass the examination. Therefore, the selective art curriculum is not within the scope of recognition) .
2. Record of grades at the level of college/school (department)
1) Two Credits are recognized for Innovation and Extension Activities at the level of college/school (department).
2) Credits for Innovation and Extension Activities at the level of college/school (department) are recorded as grades for Projects for Innovation and Extension into Student Grade Table.
3) The student “Projects for Innovation Practice” shall be selected and recorded in the fourth term, the sixth term, and the eighth term. The credits only be valid when students who have completed their identification and recognition before this term.
V. Time of Recognition
1. Time of university recognition: It is scheduled to be twice per academic year (between April and May, and between October and November). Grades are recorded in the semester of recognition;
2. Time of recognition of college/school (department): Each college/school (department) shall decide their own time of recognition and submit it to Academic Affairs Office for record, together with the detailed administration rules.
VI. Supplementary Provisions
V. The Administrative Measures shall be implemented on students enrolled in 2010 upon approval by the vice principal, and shall be interpreted by Academic Affairs Office.
The old Administrative Measures to Recognize Credits for Innovation and Extension Activities of Tongji Undergraduate Students issued in 2012 shall be abolished at the same time.
